Friday Harbor Trip:  pg 1 PWT-FHR leg | pg 2 on ground in Friday Harbor | pg 3 FHR-PWT leg

Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, my wife Kellie and I headed out to Friday Harbor, WA in the San Juan Islands for some sightseeing and lunch.  Great day for our first RV flight together since moving back to the great Pacific Northwest from the Bay area in CA.

Credit for the photography goes to my wife, and this page shows some of the sights on the flight from Bremerton to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.

We found a Coast Guard C-130 parked near my hangar when we got to the Bremerton airport, so got some good photos as they started up and took off; even got a decent iPhone video of the takeoff roll.

Only about a 30 minute flight, we soon had Friday Harbor in sight, but Kellie has a hard time with her ears when we fly and I went high over the water for more available glide distance, so I kept the descent slow enough to enjoy a tour of the island before we headed in to land at FHR.  This photo is from our first fly-by as we headed out over the west coast of the island and up around the Roche Harbor area before coming back to land at FHR and walk into town.  This is the Friday Harbor Marina and ferry dock area:

And a wider view of the Friday Harbor area from probably about 3,000 feet.  FHR airport clearly in sight (transient parking area is at upper right corner, closest part of the airport to town for an easy walk to the waterfront and great restaurants):

This picture is looking out past Friday Harbor with parts of Shaw and Orcas Islands in view:

Another view of Friday Harbor as we head north to see the rest of the island:

Wide view of the Roche Harbor area, with the private Roche Harbor airstrip visible to the right side of the marina:

Then we headed back to Friday Harbor to land and walk into town.  The next few pictures were taken by Kellie as I flew the right hand pattern to runway 16.  This one from downwind, just before turn to base:

And another view on downwind, about to turn base for runway 16:
