Paso Robles flight with Justin: pg 1 | pg 2 | pg 3
This Marine Corp helicopter and about a dozen Marines were on the ground at Paso Robles when we parked our RV-6A. They had stopped the day before for fuel while enroute to Moffett Field and ended up with an unplanned overnight stop at Paso Robles with maintenance issues. In the shot below you can see one of the Marines on top of the chopper, under the forward part of the rotor, wrapping up the repairs. They finished up and took off for Moffett Field while we were at the fuel pumps with our RV. When we got home that night to our house in military housing on Moffett Field, this bird was tied down near the tower....and we heard them call in with NorCal as "Thunder 01" on our way to RHV as they were making their way through the San Jose Class C airspace to Moffett Field. Pretty cool aircraft, and the crew was great; they showed us around and let Justin up in the cockpit to take a look at a real "old school", no-glass set up:
One of the shots I got as they taxi'd out for takeoff:
And lifting off:
Dipping the nose and accelerating away:
See you at Moffet!
