Canopy installation continues:
The next few pictures show the RV-6A tip-up canopy release mechanism I designed and used in place of the factory design that has a release handle through the panel in the cockpit. The AN3 bolts into the nutplates along the centerline rib hold the angles shown that keep the canopy hinge pins held firmly in place. When the angles are un-bolted, they can be swung down and used as handles to pull and replace the canopy hinge pins. This has worked well in practice; took less than 5 minutes to remove the canopy at the paint shop for painting.
Closer view of canopy attach point. The AN3 bolt into nutplate is easily removed from below, allowing the angle to pivot at the point it attaches to the canopy pin going through the canopy pivot arm. The angle is used as a handle to pull the pivot pin out, releasing the canopy on that side. With both angles removed, the canopy can be raised and lifted off the plane. This worked well when I took the RV to the paint shop and pulled the canopy for painting:
