Working on some additional trimming of the tip up canopy as the fit changed somewhat once the window piece was cut off and I started pulling the sides in along the canopy rails:
Here you can see that the die grinder leaves a pretty rough edge cut. Those edges are easily sanded down to remove all the stress risers left by the rough cut:
Another nerve wracking drilling session on the V-6A canopy is completed here. The canopy frame is again clamped in place, the garage heated up as hot as I could get it, and per the advice of other builders, some who cracked their first canopy at cost of about $1,000, I was careful not to go too far forward with rivets on the canopy rail as the curved section starts to put higher stress on those rivet holes and that forward most hole is a common location for the dreaded cracked canopy during construction:
This shot shows the transition of the canopy from outside the forward canopy frame skin to under the canopy frame side skin. The transition section "ear" is hidden in final construction by the fiberglass fairing that is laid up over top of this and along the front edge of the canopy:
Although the fit of the canopy looked "perfect" before I made the "big cut" and started final fitting, the changes after the cut and pulling in the sections along the side rail, left a large gap at the front of the windshield. I had to close this gap by fabricating and installing some aluminum hold down "clips" that eventually were covered by the fiberglass fairing that was fabricated on top of all this later on during construction:
